tweet chatsJuly 14, 2015: When I started working at SEMrush earlier this year, I had a positive reputation for content management and SEO copy writing in my niche. With little recognition in the digital marketing industry, I needed to form connections quickly and establish my own voice in the field. Participating in Twitter chats has been integral to my growth as a digital marketer.

Hanging out on Twitter is as natural as chatting about a fun topic. There’s no major time commitment and it’s a great way to immerse myself in the zeitgeist of my industry without leaving the office. Plus, I found helpful digital marketing tools and some of the best writers who have appeared on the blogs I manage.

I attend a few of these chats regularly:

1. #cochat

  • Hosted by: CoSchedule (@CoSchedule)
  • Time: Thursdays, 4 PM ET
  • Focus: The focus in #cochat is content marketing, content writing, organization and social media marketing.
  • About the Host: CoSchedule is a digital marketing tool that functions as a drag-and-drop editorial calendar (integrated with WordPress and Evernote) as well as a social media scheduler for you and your editorial team.
  • Crowd: #cochat draws a really friendly and supportive crowd. The chat leader always starts by asking everyone to introduce themselves. It’s a great place for beginner or intermediate users to ask questions or look for digital marketing solutions. The #cochat staff sets a friendly, helpful tone, often replying to participants to acknowledge pain points, solutions and successes.
  • Join: View upcoming #cochat topics on their calendar.

2. #bufferchat

(Personal note: I love blogging after #bufferchat because I always feel so inspired by the discussions.)bout the Host: Buffer is a tool that allows you to comprehensively schedule social media across a variety of networks.
  • Crowd: Buffer draws a friendly crowd, but has a professional edge focusing on analytics, drawing chat participants to respond accordingly:

  • You can tell the Buffer team loves what they do; their responses are enthusiastic and genuine and any positive mention of their tool is favorited immediately, especially during chat time.
  • Join: You can see a calendar of upcoming #bufferchat recaps, blogs and topics and add them to your calendar here.
